Overview

The Calcutta School of Music is one of the premier institutions in India. It was established in 1915 by Dr. Phillipé Sandré, a musician of considerable calibre, contemporary and friend of the famous composer Saint Saëns. The Calcutta School of Music promoted the Calcutta Symphony Orchestra in the days of yore. The Calcutta School of Music took under its aegis the Calcutta Chamber Orchestra from the Calcutta Foundation in April 2005.

Academics

Courses offered: The courses offered are Western music, modern dance, elocution, Indian music and dance.Western music consists of piano and theory, guitar: classical and non classical and so on. Dance includes, pre-ballet, modern dance, ballroom dance. In vocals senior choir, junior choir, Kodaly junior music, skilful music recording and effective communications and speech and drama. Indian music includes vocals in Thumri, kheyal, geet, ghazal, bhajan, Rabindra Sangeet, modern Bengali songs, and sa re ga ma pa for juniors. Course in instruments are sitar and tabla. Indian dances include Kathak, Odissi, and Bharatnatyam, modern creative dance and classical aerobics and fusion dance.

Admission

New admissions are taken from the 1st to the 10th of every month from 11am to 3pm Monday to Friday. The payments of fee are taken in cash only. Normal school fee is accepted from the 1st to the 10th of every month. To enrol in any of the above courses please visit the school for prospectus/application form.
