In a significant move, the Social Welfare Department of the Government of Uttar Pradesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the India Child Protection Fund (ICPF) organization to deliver comprehensive cybersecurity education to students attending Sarvodaya Vidyalayas. A government official confirmed this collaborative effort, highlighting the department’s commitment to both the educational development and safety of students in all 105 residential Sarvodaya and Eklavya Vidyalayas across the state.

The partnership aims to implement safety and awareness programs to combat cyber sexual exploitation among students. As part of the agreement, two teachers from each school will undergo training as master trainers through a “train the trainer” approach. These trained educators will play a vital role in fostering a secure ecosystem by addressing topics such as cyber abuse, the impact of online activities on mental health, and the technical and legal aspects of responsibly using digital devices such as mobiles, tablets, and computers.

To ensure the effectiveness of the initiatives, pre-intervention and post-intervention surveys will be conducted among all students. Any issues identified will be sensitively addressed through counseling and appropriate interventions. Asim Arun, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Social Welfare, emphasized the importance of empowering Sarvodaya Vidyalaya students through increased awareness about cyber sexual exploitation.

Former Director General of Police and CEO of ICPF, OP Singh, stressed that spreading awareness is crucial in combatting and preventing such threats. He expressed gratitude for the collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, highlighting the significance of safeguarding the vulnerable sections of society.

This partnership between the Social Welfare Department and ICPF brings hope for a safer online environment for students, providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to protect themselves from cyber threats.
