The Uttar Pradesh government has issued new guidelines about the beginning of the next academic session in the state universities. According to an official statement, the admission process to graduation classes will begin from September while classes for first year graduates will begin from October 1. For post-graduation students, classes will begin from November 1. The university examinations for the academic session 2020-2021 will be held in March-April next year and the decision on the syllabus for all courses will be taken through a series of meetings within a month.
Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, who also holds the higher education portfolio said, “We are not declaring a zero session and will make up for the lost time.”
According to sources, a four-member committee was appointed by the Uttar Pradesh government to discuss the above issues. The committee had “strongly” recommended against holding of university examinations during the coronavirus pandemic. The committee headed by Meerut University Vice Chancellor A.K. Taneja and comprising the Vice Chancellors of three more state universities has submitted its report recommending that exams should be cancelled.
Earlier, the MHA issued guidelines that read, “Schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutions will remain closed till 31 July, 2020. Online/distance learning shall continue to be permitted and shall be encouraged.”
