A class 8 girl was shot dead allegedly by 25-year old school teacher in Kanpur’s Dehat district for rejecting his advances. The accused identified as Shailendra Singh has been harassing the girl for a long time. He was earlier expelled from the school after the victim had lodged a complaint against him with her school principal.
Singh fired three bullets at the minor while she was returning home after school. She died while receiving treatment at a district hospital. Kanpur Dehat SP Anurag Vats said Singh had been stalking and making advances on the girl even after being expelled. Family members of the girl have demanded death sentence for the accused.
The SHO of the concerned police station told The Indian Express, “The girl was accompanied by a schoolmate who is the lone eyewitness. She told police that Shailendra, who was on a motorcycle with another person, intercepted them and started talking to the girl. After a few minutes, he shot her in the neck and fled.”
