The Uttar Pradesh government has issued a directive to all educational institutions, emphasizing the strict adherence to guidelines aimed at preventing physical, mental, and sexual abuse of children. The government has re-issued comprehensive guidelines, originally formulated in 2015, outlining protocols to address incidents of abuse within educational settings.
In a statement, State Project Director Vijay Kiran Anand communicated the instructions to all district Basic Education Officers, stressing the need for action in implementing the guidelines. The letter explicitly stated that compliance should be ensured by all principals, teachers, staff, wardens, and members of the school management committees in primary, upper primary, composite, and Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools.
The purpose of these guidelines, established on February 23, 2015, is to safeguard the well-being of children in the state, prevent crimes against children, and protect them from physical and mental harassment within educational environments. The guidelines also hold principals, teachers, and other officials accountable for any harassment or mistreatment of children within their respective institutions.
According to the guidelines, it is the responsibility of every school management and principal to create a safe and secure environment for children within the school premises, during their commute to and from school, and during any field visits outside the school. The guidelines recommend a range of measures to ensure student safety, including the installation of GPS systems in school buses, mandatory verification of drivers and helpers, displaying child helpline, women helpline, and police station contact numbers inside buses, as well as the deployment of two teachers in each school bus.
By re-emphasizing these guidelines, the government aims to enhance the protection of schoolchildren and provide a secure educational environment for their holistic development.
