New Vedic Education Board proposed

An Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) -backed Vedic university is all set to start operations at Gurugram next academic year. The university will feature a Vedic-era curriculum and teaching methods. Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s christened the university as Ashok Singhal Ved Vigyan Evam Praudyogikee Vishwavidyalaya.

The university has been named after Ashok Singhal, who was the international working President of the VHP for over 20 years. This would be the first such attempt by the VHP to foray into higher education.

The institution aims to apply the ancient Vedic methods of teaching. There will be a confluence of modern and Vedic curriculum and the university aims to recreate Vedic era ambience of teaching. Classes will be conducted under trees and Gita extracts will be broadcasted. Some of the classes will be conducted under the trees to give the feel of the Vedic era.

A senior official told ANI, “The campus will also resonate with Vedic hymns. Upanishads and extracts of ‘Gita’ shall be broadcast throughout the campus morning and evening through public address system.” A ‘Vedic tower’ will also be constructed on the campus and each Veda and allied literature will have its separate floor with an audio-visual studio. There will also be a Surabhi Sadan or cow shelter, temple, meditation hall and Yajna Shala, officials added.

The university is being constructed in a total area of 39.68 acres of land and will be developed in multiple phases. “The objective is to pave the way to re-establish Bharat as ‘Vishwaguru’ and create a common platform for modern scientists, technologists and traditional Vedic Pandits to generate a new and comprehensive stream of knowledge of Bharat,” sources said.

The Vedic university will follow the National Education Policy (NEP) 2019.  A total of 20 subjects will be offered at the vedic university. These includes Agriculture (Krishi Tantram), Architecture (Vastu Tantram),  Environment Science, Paleography (Lipi Vigyan), Warfare (Yuddh Tantram), Internal Security, Mathematics, Hatya Shashtra, Ayurveda, and Narmada Bhakti Sutra, to name a few.
