Promoted in 1990, the Vidyodaya School, Kochi is a co-educational, English medium day school, affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. The school was established under the aegis of the Vidyodaya Educational and Charitable Trust and is known to have made a modest beginning with 20 students and 6 teachers out of a rented accommodation in Kaloor. The school is now a reputed name with 2500 students and 200 faculty members and offers education from lower kindergarten through class XII.
Working towards the objective of ‘awakening the wisdom and power within’, Vidyodaya maintains Indian values along with modern methodologies in its curriculum and has successfully risen to become one of the best schools in Kochi.
According to a school spokesperson, “Vidyodaya shall strive to produce intellectually competent, morally upright, socially committed, spiritually inspired, emotionally well balanced, patriotic boys and girls to act as role models in the service of humanity. That shall be our vision.”
Sited on a 12 acre campus on a small hill, Vidyodaya offers an eco-friendly campus with compost pits, a central water conservation system, a tree conservation mechanism and various green awareness programs for students.
The school encompasses separate blocks named, Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Administrative. The Nursery block is an architectural delight, with a ‘train station’ look, a park and surroundings conforming to the theme. In addition to vibrant classrooms, the block offers a swimming pool and an activity arena for the children.
Vidyodaya offers fully equipped science, mathematics and computer laboratories, a state-of-the-art conference hall and smart board classrooms. The administrative block hosts a well stocked library, a reading room and a large canteen. Sports facilities include courts for basketball and volleyball, football and hockey fields, a skating rink and cricket pitches. A fully operational transport system provides buses plying throughout the city for the convenience of students and faculty.
Vidyodaya offers a curriculum prescribed by CBSE and the text books are as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Each classroom accommodates a maximum of 30 students to facilitate qualitative learning. It offers education from lower kindergarten through class XII.
Extracurricular: Alongside academics, the school encourages extracurricular activities such as music, dramatics, yoga, art and craft, karate, judo, and ‘Kalarippayatt’, the classic martial art form of Kerala.
Through its ‘SPICE’, (Social Participation in Child Education) program, Vidyodaya School provides students opportunities to interact with distinguished personalities. The FIT (Faculty Improvement Training) program enhances teaching capabilities; workshops for parents maintain their active participation in the education process.
