Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the formation of an integrated commission for teacher recruitment in various educational institutions in the state. In a press release on Tuesday, it was announced that the commission will be called the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission and will be responsible for issuing guidelines for teacher recruitment and overall recruitment processes.

At present, the state has separate authorities, boards, and commissions for selecting qualified teachers in basic, secondary, higher, and technical educational institutions. The decision to establish a unified commission for teacher selection was made in order to make practical reforms and to consider future requirements.

The CM directed officials to prepare and present the necessary proposal outlining the nature of the new commission, the qualifications of the chairman and members, as well as the powers and functions of the commission. It was suggested that the chairman of the commission could be a person holding posts such as the vice-chancellor of universities, or someone with long experience in the Indian Administrative Service. Additionally, senior judges and experienced educationists should be appointed as members.

Other backward classes, scheduled castes/tribes, women, and minorities are also eligible for appointment to the commission. Once established, the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission will be responsible for the recruitment of different categories of teachers in various educational institutions, including the Council Junior Basic School, Non-Government Aided Junior High School, Affiliated Primary School, Non-Government Aided Minority Junior High School, and Affiliated Minority Primary School. The commission will also be responsible for the recruitment of teachers in Government High Schools / Intermediate Colleges, Non-Government Aided High Schools / Intermediate Colleges, Government and Aided Sanskrit Schools, as well as non-government aided minority high schools/intermediate colleges.

Furthermore, Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test will also be organized through this new commission in a timely manner as directed by the CM. The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission will be a corporate and integrated body of teachers’ selection commissions with the status of an “autonomous body.”
