Indian students face challenges in finding job after studying abroad?

38% Surge in Indian students opting for Singapore, Ireland & Dubai

May 8, 2025

A notable shift is underway in the international education landscape, with a growing number of Indian students choosing alternative global study destinations beyond the traditional favourites. According to a recent report by Gradding.com, a leading study-abroad platform, countries like Singapore, Ireland, and Dubai have seen a 38% increase in interest from Indian students in recent years.

Once dominated by the UK, US, and Australia, the study-abroad market is evolving. In 2024, the total number of Indian students pursuing international education dropped by nearly 15%, as per official figures from the Indian government. Among traditional destinations, Canada saw the steepest decline at 41%, followed by the UK (27.7%) and the US (13%).

Conversely, emerging education hubs such as Singapore, Ireland, and Dubai are gaining momentum. Students are increasingly drawn to these destinations for their high-quality education, career-oriented programs, favorable immigration policies, and cost-effective tuition structures.

This shift reflects not only changing student preferences but also the evolving global academic and immigration policies. Tighter post-study work regulations, reduced dependent visa options, and stricter immigration rules in countries like Australia and Canada have led many students to reconsider their options, especially those prioritizing long-term career prospects abroad.

In contrast, Singapore, Ireland, and Dubai are offering strong incentives. Singapore, for example, has witnessed a 25% year-on-year growth in Indian student enrollments. Globally recognized universities, increasing industry-academic collaboration, and emerging job markets in fields like technology, finance, and healthcare have positioned these countries as viable, future-ready choices.

“These evolving preferences signify a transformational change in the global education landscape. Students today are more informed and strategic in their choices, seeking value-driven education aligned with career growth,” said Mamta Shekhawat, Founder of Gradding.com.

Between 2022 and 2023, the number of Indian students abroad rose from 750,365 to 892,989. While traditional destinations still command a significant share, the rising popularity of previously underrepresented countries marks the beginning of a more diversified global academic migration trend.

With accessibility, affordability, and opportunity at their core, countries like Singapore, Ireland, and Dubai are expected to continue gaining traction among Indian students. For aspiring scholars, well-researched and proactive decision-making can unlock exciting international opportunities in these dynamic education ecosystems.
