769 children affected with Covid-19 in Mysuru

The fear of the third wave which had been grappling parents so long is possibly coming true as 769 children below the age of 18 is affected with Covid-19 over the last 10 days in Mysuru district. 

According to the data, 769 children below the age of 18 has tested positive from June 9 to June 18. Of these, 301 are between the age group of 0 and 10. Over 7,600 Covid-19 cases in the last 10 days have been reported in the district and 10% of the fresh cases are below the age of 18. 

Among the children, most of them were asymptomatic and in home isolation, said a senior health official. The official also pointed out that over 4,500 children between the age group of 0 and 10 were infected with Covid-19 in the district since March last year. “While 1,521 kids were infected in the first wave, over 3,000 children have been infected from April 2021 till date,” the official said.

Mysuru district health officials are meanwhile doing their best to provide proper paediatric facilities. DC Dr Bagadi Gautham said that the primary focus now was on containing the current situation and the administration will also be focussing on paediatric management.

In March 2021, 10 children in the age group of 0 to 5 years were infected in Mysuru and 31 were in the age group of 6 to 10. 313 children between the age group of 11 and 20 were also affected. In April this year, when the second wave started, 251 children in the age group of 0 to 5 years, 320 in the age group of 6 to 10 and 2,036 children in the age group of 11 to 20 were affected.
