Aditya Srivastava tops civil services; Animesh Pradhan, Donuru Ananya Reddy follow

Aditya Srivastava secured the top rank in the prestigious civil services examination 2023, followed by Animesh Pradhan and Donuru Ananya Reddy in second and third place, respectively, as announced by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday. Srivastava, who opted for electrical engineering as his optional subject, graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur. Pradhan, a computer science graduate from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, secured the second rank with sociology as his optional subject. Reddy, holding a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in geography from Miranda House, Delhi University, stood third with anthropology as her optional subject.

Out of 1,016 qualified candidates recommended for various services, the top five comprise three men and two women. Among them, P K Sidharth Ramkumar and Ruhani secured the fourth and fifth ranks, respectively. Ramkumar, an architecture graduate from Trivandrum, chose anthropology as his optional subject, while Ruhani, an economics graduate from St. Stephens College, Delhi University, opted for economics. The top 25 successful candidates include 10 women and 15 men, with diverse educational backgrounds ranging from engineering to humanities. They have chosen subjects like anthropology, chemistry, geography, economics, and political science as their optional choices.

The civil services examination, conducted annually in three stages, aims to select officers for prestigious services like the IAS, IFS, and IPS. The exam saw a total of 10,16,850 applicants, out of which 5,92,141 appeared. A total of 2,855 candidates qualified for the personality test. The UPSC has reported 1,143 vacancies to be filled through the examination. Marks will be available on the UPSC website within 15 days from the result declaration date.
