Indian students stare at uncertainty over completing MBBS in Ukraine

Allow Ukraine returned medicos to continue education here: IMA

March 5, 2022

The Indian Medical Association, a recognised association of doctors have called upon the government to allow medicos returning from war affected Ukraine to continue education in India.

The IMA has written to prime minister Narendra Modi on Friday asking him to intervene and bring an end to the uncertainty for students.

Several students, particularly those pursuing medical education in Ukraine had previously said that their departure was delayed as universities in Ukraine did not assure them of allowing continuation of education if they left the campus in between the course. This in turn resulted in a delay of their return, now leaving them stranded.

This will also need the validation of certification which has been made by the competent academic authorities of the medical schools where they were originally admitted in medical schools in Ukraine whereby the progression of theirs’ would be permissible in Indian medical schools. On passing out they will be Indian medical graduates and not foreign medical graduates,’’ said the Association in a letter.

The IMA has also expressed concerns over the students’ future as the time taken for Ukraine to return to normalcy is an uncertain factor at the moment even as Russia continues to invade.

“The Association is concerned about the fate and future of all these medical students,’’ the letter by IMA reads.
