Bengal: CBI raids homes of TMC MLA and councillors in school job scam

November 30, 2023

On Thursday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) launched simultaneous raids at the residences of several Trinamool Congress leaders, including an MLA and two councillors, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in school recruitment in West Bengal. The targeted individuals include Jafikul Islam, the MLA representing Domkal in Murshidabad district, and two municipal councillors, Bappadittya Dasgupta from Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Debraj Chakraborty from Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.

The raids are a significant development in the CBI’s probe into a teachers’ recruitment scam, with officials conducting searches at various locations in and around Kolkata, Murshidabad, and Cooch Behar districts. The agency aims to gather evidence and question individuals associated with the targeted residences and offices to ascertain the extent of their alleged involvement in the irregularities related to school recruitment in the state. The simultaneous nature of the raids underscores the gravity of the situation and the thoroughness of the investigation being carried out by the CBI.
