The Bengal police has registered a case and started a probe into a threat mail received by several schools in Kolkata and Siliguri in North Bengal late on Sunday night allegedly threatening that bombs are placed in the institutions and they will go off on  Tuesday morning.

The police started a suo moto case against unknown persons for sending the mails, according to sources in the police.

The police after launching an investigation said that it seems like a prank, but nothing can be confirmed.

According to sources, the email that was sent to the schools between 12.15 am and 12.25 am on Sunday night said that there were “bombs planted inside the classrooms.”

Schools that received the mail alerted the police immediately  and officials from local police stations conducted inspections on the campuses as precautionary measures. After the search operations, the police said that nothing suspicious was found in any of the campuses.

The schools have been asked by the police to inform the local police stations immediately if they find anything suspicious inside the campuses. Security and surveillance has been beefed up on several campuses after receiving the mail.

The email that was sent to the schools read: “ The bombs are set to go off tomorrow morning, when there are kids inside of the school. Our mission is to leave as many people as possible in a pool of blood. This attack is caused by 2 Terrorists named Ching and Doll.”

No one was arrested in connection with the incident till late on Monday evening, the police said. The police are trying to track details of the Internet Protocol from where the email was sent.

Investigations are on to find out whether the sender of the emails to the Bengal schools had any link with similar incidents that took place in Chennai and Bengaluru a few weeks ago.

There was panic in some schools in Chennai and Bengaluru nearly a month ago when they had received similar threat mails which were later found to be fakes.
