April 8, 2022

Several schools in Bengaluru have received bomb threats and are now being searched even as Bengaluru police believe that the threats are largely hoax.

These seven schools have received threats on mails. Threat mails that bombs were planted in these schools were sent to official mail ids of schools.

DCPs of the respective areas, along with dog and bomb squads have arrived at schools, trying to comb the area and check for possible explosives.

Most of these schools received threats late in the morning, when students had reached school. Later, on receiving the mail, schools had staff and students rushed outside on the school grounds to safety while they were awaiting the area to be sanitized.

Prima facie, sources have it that DPS Varthur, Ebenezer International School, Vincent Palloti International School, Indian Public School are among the others to have received the e-mail threat.

“A very powerful bomb has been planted in your school and this is not a joke. this is not a joke, a very powerful bomb has been planted in your school, immediately call the police and sappers, hundreds of lives may suffer, including yours, do not delay, now everything is only in your hands,” the mails sent to schools read.

Meanwhile, speaking about the incident, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “Some elements are trying to create unrest in Karnataka. This is a ploy.  Karnataka is a progressive state and repeated attempts to mar our image are on. This is also one such. Police have been asked to pay serious attention to the issue. Whatever it may be, we must not give it a chance. Investigation is underway. Security measures will be taken. We will take action and ensure safety measures are in place. Parents need not panic.”
