The Bihar government announced on Tuesday that school teachers who fail to attend mandatory in-service residential training by June 30 will not receive their next annual salary increment.
The state Education Department also instructed district education officers (DEOs) to halt new transfer orders for school teachers until the posting process for 1.87 lakh newly recruited ‘Exclusive Teachers’ is finished.
In Bihar, ‘Niyojit’ teachers who pass competency tests are designated as ‘Exclusive Teachers’ and receive regular government employee status.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, S Siddhartha, directed DEOs to identify and ensure that teachers who have not attended their mandatory training do so before the June 30 deadline.
Approximately 6 lakh government teachers have completed the in-service residential training from July 30, 2024, to the present. However, many have yet to attend despite repeated instructions. Failure to complete this training by the deadline will result in ineligibility for their next annual salary increment.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) organizes these residential training programs for both new and veteran teachers at 78 centers statewide.
A senior department official emphasized that the training is crucial for keeping teachers’ knowledge current and enhancing educational techniques and practices.
