‘Bois Locker Room’: Delhi school boy in police custody

May 5, 2020

An Instagram chat group called ‘Bois Locker Room’ consisting of hundreds of boys from south Delhi objectifying underage girls and sharing their photos were revealed by a user on Twitter on Sunday, May 3. In connection to that, a Delhi school boy has been taken into police custody on Monday, May 4. The police said, “We have apprehended one minor boy last night in this case.”

From the screenshots of the group chat, the boys could be see promoting rape culture, planning gang rapes, morphing photos of underage girls, body shaming and slut shaming them. Most of the boys are enrolled in classes 11 and 12. The Delhi Police had earlier filed a case under the IT Act on the basis of social media posts, reported ANI.

Morphing photos and sharing images of people’s private parts is considered as a violation of Section 66E of the IT Act and Section 354C (voyeurism) of the Indian Penal Code.

The All India Mahila Congress also demanded that the centre looks into the allegations and that cyber crimes against women have increased during the lockdown.

The South Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police said they are waiting for parents to come forward with a formal complaint.

As the screenshot became viral, members of the group reportedly changed their user name. Meanwhile, a new Instagram page ‘Bois Locker Room 2.0’ has been created with the bio stating, ” Let’s start this again. But this time join the group with fake accounts so no one can expose u. Msg me the username of ur fake account.”

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) sent a notice to Instagram about the screenshots of the private chat group. It read, “This commission has received a number of screenshots related to this group which are extremely objectionable and explicitly mention rape threats to even minor girls. Members of this group also have personal information about these minor girls.”
