What is Dental Medicine?
Dental medicine or dentistry is a branch of medicine dealing with the study, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of oral health problems and diseases. Dental medicine is not only restricted to the patients’ teeth and gums but also other aspects of the craniofacial complex, including the muscles of the head, neck, jaw, tongue, salivary glands, and the nervous system. Dentistry is a wide field of medicine including various specialists like oral surgeons, orthodontists, periodontists, endodontists, endodontists and prosthodontists.
Job Description
- Responsibilities of a dentist include prescribing medication, diagnoses, treatments and consultations according to the patients’ dental requirements
- Designing and fitting dental prosthetics, such as bridges, crowns and dentures
- Examining and maintaining patients’ dental records
- Educating patients on proper oral health and preventive dental care by scheduling regular check-ups
