What is Nursing?

Nursing is a profession within the health industry focusing on the autonomous and collaborative care of individuals, families, groups and communities to help then attain, maintain or recover optimal health and quality of life. Nurses practice in many specialties with differing levels of prescription authority. Advocacy, health-education, promotion of a safe environment, research and participation in shaping health policy and patient and health systems management are also key nursing roles besides the care of patients and prevention of illnesses.

Job Description

  • Responsibilities of a nurse include identifying and catering to patients’ care requirements
  • Preparing patients for examinations and perform routine diagnostic checks (pulse, blood pressure and temperature) and administering drugs and injections
  • Treating medical emergencies and providing pre- and post- surgery/operation care
  • Monitoring and recording patients’ conditions and documenting care servicesprovided
