A CBI team visited a school in Hazaribag, Jharkhand on Wednesday and questioned its principal regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET medical entrance test, an official confirmed. Dr. Ehsanul Haque, the principal of Oasis School and the district coordinator for NEET-UG in Hazaribag, was interrogated for several hours. He was later taken to a guest house in Charhi along with others for further questioning until late evening, according to sources.
Kumar Shivashish, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Hazaribag Sadar, mentioned that they learned about the investigation from unofficial sources and have not received official communication regarding the matter.
Sources reported that a 12-member CBI team arrived in Hazaribag on Tuesday evening, with an eight-member team visiting the school on Wednesday. Some team members also reportedly visited the main branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) in the district, where the question papers were reportedly kept under the supervision of the bank manager, who received them from a courier service operator in an e-rickshaw.
The CBI team declined to disclose details to the media, stating that they would report their findings to their headquarters.
Dr. Haque, speaking to the media on Tuesday, denied any tampering of question papers in Hazaribag, dismissing the allegations as unfounded.
Earlier, a three-member team from the economic offences unit (EOU) of Bihar Police visited the school on June 23 to investigate the administration of the exam and the procedure for unlocking digital question paper boxes.
On June 21, Bihar Police detained six individuals from Jharkhand’s Deoghar district in connection with alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam.
NEET-UG, conducted by the NTA on May 5 with approximately 24 lakh candidates participating, saw its results announced on June 4. Subsequently, allegations of question paper leaks surfaced in Bihar and other states, along with other reported irregularities.
