May 8, 2020

The pending CBSE board examinations for Class X and Class XII that were postponed due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown will now be conducted in the first two weeks of July. Wishing the students all the best, the HRD minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank made an announcement on Friday evening that the pending 29 examinations for both the classes will be conducted from July 1 to 15. The CBSE will announce the detailed schedule of the examinations soon.

Earlier, there were several media reports stating that the pending Class X board examinations have been cancelled and it had created lots of confusion among students and parents. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) also received several queries regarding the same. The Board then issued a statement again on April 29 stating that the remaining examinations of Class X will be conducted by CBSE as mentioned in its press release issued on April 1. The Board again clarified that adequate time of 10 days will be given to all stakeholders before starting the examinations.

The CBSE’s board exam schedule will be prepared in convenience for class 12 students so that they can appear for the entrance examinations as well. The engineering entrance exam (JEE Main) will be held from July 18 to July 23 and the medical entrance exam (NEET) will be held on July 26.

CBSE had conducted class X, XII board examinations till March 18 this year. In response to the queries of students in foreign countries, a senior HRD spokesperson had told media sources earlier that as a common solution for all is not feasible, they will consider the different situation at different places. “If the situation has improved in some countries, it would be better to conduct exams at least there. For example, if the situation has improved in Japan, we can conduct the examinations there. Modalities are being worked out for both the situations – how will the examinations be conducted in some places and what will be the assessment pattern in places where it can’t be conducted. We will soon have a final decision on all these aspects,” the spokesperson said.
