The Rachakonda police in Hyderabad arrested a 17-year old boy, who allegedly kidnaped a seven-year-old boy and demanded a ransom of Rs 3 lakh from the victim’s parents. Following the kidnapper’s arrest, he was sent to a juvenile home, Rachakonda commissioner of police Mahesh Bhagawati said.
The victim Gurram Arjun (7) is the son of Gurram Raju, a software employee from Badangpet area. He was playing with two other kids on Sunday evening when the class X boy approached him and offered him chocolates. After some time, the juvenile quietly disappeared with Arjun and took him to a temple in Almasguda in an auto-rickshaw.
Later, he called Arjun’s father and told him that he had kidnapped the boy and demanded a ransom. He also threatened to kill the boy if he informed the police. The police caught him when he came to collect money from the father.

The police stated that the juvenile has a criminal history. Previously, he stole Rs 1 lakh from his neighbour but there was no police case then as both the parties had settled the issue.
Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat told The New Minute, “Though the minor is 17 years old, we are going to approach the Juvenile Justice Board, appealing them to treat the arrested accused as a regular offender. There is a provision for it under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, to treat 16 and 17 years old as regular offenders for serious crimes like kidnapping, murder, and rape.”
