COVID19 Challenge: Nalapad Academy, Bangalore online learning success

April 15, 2020

Nalapad Academy, Bangalore + Kavita Sinha“Coronavirus has wreaked havoc in everyone’s life. The entire world economy and our collective psychology has taken a big hit. Fortunately for us at Nalapad Academy, technology driven teaching-learning is not a new concept. So when the Covid-19 pandemic forced us to shut down the school, we swiftly swung into action and launched our online learning initiative. However, it is not just technology but the commitment and passion of our teachers that has made online teaching, parent-teacher meetings and departmental meetings a seamless process thus tranforming the virtual world into a reality.”

Kavita Sinha, principal of the CAIE (UK) affiliated Nalapad Academy – Bangalore’s top ranked international day school.

A recipient of the EducationWorld Grand Jury Award 2019 in the ‘Emerging high potential schools’ category, Nalapad Academy, Bangalore is committed to offer a contemporary learning experience through an excellent blend of academics, life-skills, sports and co-curricular education. A frontrunner in integrating technology in the teaching-learning process, the school has made a smooth transition to virtual learning in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak. Among the first schools in the city to offer online clases amid the ongoing nationwide lockdown, the school’s successful virtual learning initiative includes:

Customised approach: Online classes of 30 minutes each with a ten-minute break between each class to ensure well balanced screen time. Interactive and interesting storytelling sessions and video lessons shared with pre-primary classes to ensure better student engagement. Moreover, Flip classes were also used as  a tool to keep students motivated.

Online exams: The school conducted online exams with online invigilation with the help of Google tools. Teachers compiled creative audio and video resources for the students along with online exam for their respective subjects. The initiative was appreciated by all and the parents were particularly happy with this approach.

Offline reflection: Apart from keeping the children effectively engaged during the teaching hours, the Nalapad teachers ensure students engage in reflection work on a daily basis after the online sessions to help reinforce learning. Thinking and creativity based reflections have ensured excellent learning outcomes.

“Initially we all had our qualms about online teaching considering the network connectivity in different areas, availability of parents during teaching hours and ability of children of diverse age groups to adapt to online teaching. However, the parents were very supportive and cooperated with the teachers to ensure effective learning. Due to the enduring support from parents, the transition to online teaching was a breeze. Technology has truly been a game changer for us during these testing times,” says Sinha.

Parent voices:

I would like to thank the teachers, staff and principal at Nalapad for quickly adapting and moving to online classes in the current situation. I think the fact that kids are engaged for an hour a day is a great start as they usually don’t like spending time in a video call. Slowly but steadily their tolerance level and engagement time over video call is also increasing. The kids are excited and continue to learn something new every day. Thank you for the initiative to keep learning on. I am happy to do some work with them at home myself. I also feel good that we have not let the coronavirus situation bring the kids spirits down and the classes help them connect with their peers every day.

It’s great to see that Nalapad Academy is keeping the pupils busy during this lockdown period. With the new innovative idea of online classes, the school has taken the education to next level. We have witnessed that our kid is eagerly waiting to attend the classes, to meet his teachers, friends and learn things. Even though we have faced little glitches in the initial days, it went well in the later stage. We could see our kid’s performance improvement with great support from dedicated teacher’s team at Nalapad. Its great motivation to students and parents as well. Special thanks to teachers for their great enthusiasm. Hats off to entire Nalapad team.

We would like to thank and congratulate the Team Nalapad for successful conducting online classes which was a new learning experience for the children. It is going on in well-organized manner and we would like to thank once again for Tech Smart School where the time of kids is well utilized during the pandemic of coronavirus which would have not been possible.

Congratulations and thanks for successful completion of a week of online and digitally enabled classroom sessions. Nalapad team truly demonstrated very professional approach and meticulous planning to host and facilitate all online classroom sessions. Initially we were curious to understand effectiveness of this mode of learning. We observed initial few sessions and soon we concluded that Nalapad Team is doing great job. Students were very participative. Video platform used had amazing clarity for visuals and audio. Teacher’s team very well-kept students engaged on this virtual platform and delivered their sessions. Also, to mention, students did not miss out on the fun part as mischief’s and laughing continued. As a parent, we are thankful to be part of Nalapad Academy as they very well managed this situation and has emerged as best school once again. Great Job Team. Proud to be part of Nalapad Academy.
