February 26, 2024

Family members of the student who reportedly took his own life at an Army Public School in Delhi intensified their call for justice as they staged a protest on Saturday, vehemently demanding the dismissal of the school’s principal. Concurrently, the Indian Army responded to the distressing incident by launching an official investigation, underscoring their unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of all students under their care.

In response to the gravity of the situation, Delhi Police swiftly formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) was appointed to lead the five-member SIT, emphasizing the seriousness with which authorities are approaching the investigation.

The unfortunate incident unfolded when the class 10 student allegedly took his own life by hanging from the ceiling in his residence in the Shankar Vihar area of southwest Delhi. The catalyst for this heartbreaking act was reported to be the school authorities’ refusal to provide him with the admit card required for an upcoming exam.

Expressing their condolences, the Indian Army and the school management at Shankar Vihar conveyed their collective grief at the loss of the young student. They affirmed their solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time. The statement highlighted the school’s esteemed reputation for academic and co-curricular excellence over the years.

The anguish of the student’s family was palpable as they staged a protest near the Army Public School, Shankar Vihar. Krishna Kumar, the uncle of the deceased student, vocalized the family’s demand for the removal of the principal, accusing her of misconduct. The grieving family, currently situated in their native place in Haryana’s Mahendragarh, orchestrated a march from the school to the residence of the brigadier, insisting on the principal’s removal.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, allegations surfaced that the principal had mistreated the victim’s mother during her visit to the school to procure the admit card. In response to these grave circumstances, Delhi Police took decisive action, booking the school administration for abetment of suicide. The FIR was filed based on the complaint of the student’s father, who not only claimed that his son was denied the exam admit card but also asserted that the school administration demanded a hefty fine for a chair his son had allegedly broken within the school premises.
