Develop coding skills with this innovative Robotics summer camp

There is probably no 90’s kid who did not wish to be sent summer camps in Shimla after watching Kuch Kuch Hota Hain. Over the years, however, the concept of summer camps have changed and we probably witness these camps in every neighbourhood locality. But have you ever heard of a Robotics Summer Camp?

This summer, engage your wards in one of these innovative camps that would engage children in STEM education, Robotics, Coding and Drone with interesting activities and take-away kits. An insightful activity for children, these camps deliver scientific knowledge and discover innovations. It serves as an alternative to children playing video games and scrolling mobiles as they continue to have fun coding robots and seeing them in action, in addition to a well-needed future career exposure. Students here can explore science and technology which allows them to discover their passion for the future

The Great Robotics Summer Camp 2022 is being organised at 25 locations across the country. Presently, it is being held at Nagarbhavi, Electronic City, and Kaggadaspura in Bengaluru. Catering to the age group of 7 to 17 and above, the camp is being held from April 20 to May 30, 2022. For children who are 7 and above, the camp is providing a combo of Coding and Robotics, where they are teaching basic concepts of coding through scratch programming, concepts of loops, conditions and coding one’s own games. It is also helping one learn and build their own robots by learning concepts of motors, how to control them and more.

Another interesting course, which is for children who are 10 and above, is Code Advancers’ Camp which is of Android app coding and C programming with a robotic kit. They teach to code cool apps like GPS-based apps, game apps, coding your own robot with C programming from the basics such as variables, functions, and loops and making your robot automatic with sensors. None of the courses require prior knowledge.

“I have always been inclined towards technology as it fascinates me. One day, my mother came across this innovative Robotics Summer camp 2022 on the internet and naturally I wanted to give it a try. There are different courses according to age and what level you are in. I started with coding for autonomous robots, shares Koushik Mugunbal from SBIOA International School, Chennai.

He further states, “In large warehouses like of Amazon’s, there are robots to carry the goods from warehouse to the shipping place as it is not possible for humans to do the same. So, here we learn to code the basic quotient of these advanced robots. Usually there are batches of 30-40 children. The classes are really interactive and we also help our fellow mates if he/she gets stuck at something. That way, even we tend to learn better. We have flexible batch timings. It is basically like a school but with more fun and interactive sessions, says he.

This camp has helped Koushik narrow down his technological-based career choices. It has helped him decode on the right career as he now is confident to pursue Nanotechnology.

Commenting on the well-known misconceptions that parents have related to Robotics, Sneha Priya, co-founder, SP Robotic Works said, “Students have been learning coding by just staring at the monitor but not seeing the code in action. How you teach coding and robotics is more important and this will define the way the child actually understands it. We try and teach it in a practical manner so when the student actually codes it and uploads it to the robot and sees it in action they are able to visualise their code in action and thereby also find out what mistake they have done and go back and correct it. As for the children, they feel that they are playing a video game or a remote control car and thereby keep on enjoying whereas in the background they are doing these coding stuffs.”

The camp, run by SP Robotic Works, has been running since 2018. We are slowly opening more centres for more people to join us. Presently, we have these camps in five locations in Chennai, three in Hyderabad, three in Bangalore, and the remaining in 14 various other cities.
