Distasteful old tweets of Chakratirtha resurface, appointment questioned

June 3, 2022

Social media posts derogatory of women and replete with adult content posted by Karnataka’s textbook revision committee chairperson Rohith Chakratirtha has resurfaced, drawing criticism from many.

Twitter users have been pulling out tweets posted by Chakratirtha, as old as 2015 and 2016 which speaks about porn content, feminism among others in an inappropriate manner.

For example, one such which has been drawn attention to is “Watching India batting is like watching porn. 5 minutes of nonsense talk. 30 minutes of foreplay and 2 minutes…”

Vinay Sreenivasa, an advocate from the Alternative Law Forum took to twitter to question Chakratirtha’s appointment.

Sharing a post by Charatirtha he sought to know, “This, ladies and gentlemen, is the chairperson of the textbook revision committee of Karnataka appointed by B C Nagesh. How can someone who expresses such thoughts publicly oversee textbooks?”

To this, another user posted a compilation of similar tweets and responded.

In yet another old tweet, this self-proclaimed maths expert is also seen taking reference of a classroom and porn. “In any ‘class room’ porn film, you see that teacher writes only maths on the blackboard! Why?” he wrote.

“Someone who talks so openly about porn, distastefully remarks about feminism, and also insulted Rashtrakavi Kuvempu is designing textbooks for our students. Should we still not be concerned about the kind of content such a man is capable of curating?” questioned Manoj, another social media user.

Meanwhile, while Charatirtha has not been reachable for over a week now, even his tweets on the handle have been protected and one would no longer be allowed to retweet them.
