FIR filed against 4 AMU students for supporting Palestine

October 10, 2023

On Monday, the police filed a case against four students from AMU for organizing a protest march on campus in solidarity with Palestinians, according to a statement by SP City R Shekhar Pathak. Although several students were involved, only four have been named in the case. The charges against them include sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, language, etc), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant), and 505 (statements inducing public mischief) of the IPC.

The protest march, which occurred on Sunday night from Duck Point to Babey Sir Syed Gate on the AMU campus, was conducted without prior permission. The FIR suggests that the students marched in “support” of a “terrorist group.”

The four students mentioned in the FIR are Aatif, Khalid, Kaamran, and Naved Chaudhry, as stated by Pathak. BJP MP from Aligarh, Satish Gautam, urged the police and the AMU acting Vice-Chancellor to take stringent action against the protesters in a statement.

In response to this situation, security measures on the campus have been heightened as a precautionary measure.

Israel recently experienced an unexpected and unprecedented attack by Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, in its southern regions on Saturday morning. This conflict has resulted in over 700 casualties, including soldiers, and more than 2,100 injuries in Israel, marking the deadliest war for the country in at least 50 years.
