Fit India Movement: UGC asks students to walk 10,000 steps

PM Narendra Modi will be launching the ‘Fit India Movement’ on Friday, 29th August, on the occasion of National Sports Day. This movement will be carried out to the people of the country fit and improve their wellness. It is an opportunity to work towards a healthier India.  The launch, which will be held at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi will see Modi deliver an address regarding fitness and administer a pledge on the same. 

As part of the fitness pledge, University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked its students to walk at least 10,000 steps on 29th August 29 and include it in their daily routine. It has further asked higher educational institutes to make necessary arrangements for students, faculty and staff to view the PM’s address on the launch of the movement.

It has also requested institutes to make fitness plan and incorporate daily exercise activities for everyone to adopt and practice. UGC will also be developing a ‘Fit India Movement Portal’, where the institutes will upload their fitness action plans. The institutes have been directed to upload and publicise the fitness plan on notice boards and their respective websites.

Apart from the UGC, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also instructed its affiliated schools to make necessary arrangements for viewing the launch function of the Fit India Movement. The launch will be broadcast live by Doordarshan.

Modi in his ‘Mann ki Baat‘ programme had requested citizens to be a part of the Fit India movement too.
