Haryana: Free college education for girls with family income below Rs 1.8 lakh

November 27, 2023

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced on Sunday that girls from families with an annual income of Rs 1.80 lakh or less in the state would receive free education in both government and private colleges. Additionally, the government will cover half of the college fees for girls from families with incomes ranging from Rs 1.80 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. For private colleges, where applicable, the Haryana government will bear the fees.

The Chief Minister made these declarations during the Jan Ashirwad rally held in Samalkha, Panipat district. Khattar also disclosed plans for the development of Samalkha, including the conversion of the municipality into a municipal council. Two sectors, each covering 100 acres, will be established wherever land is available in Samalkha. The existing 50-bed community health center in Samalkha will be upgraded to a 100-bed hospital.

Other developmental initiatives include the construction of an eight-kilometer-long eastern bypass on the minor road from Karhans village near Pattikalyana, a Rs 6.80 crore underpass at Narayana Gate in Samalkha, and the completion of the stalled Punjabi Sabha building. A vegetable market in Bapauli, a bus stand in the village, and a bridge on Nangla R Drain costing Rs 4.5 crore are also part of the proposed projects.

The Chief Minister allocated Rs 8.5 crore for nine roads of the marketing board and Rs 25 crore for the repair of PWD roads. Highlighting the government’s achievements since 2014, Khattar emphasized the commitment to eradicating corruption, reducing crime, and eliminating caste-based politics. He underscored the state’s appeal for investment, focusing on education, health, security, self-respect, self-reliance, service, and good governance.
