India’s trajectory toward becoming the world’s most developed nation by 2047 rests on elevating higher education and implementing transformative reforms, affirmed AICTE Chairman Prof TG Sitharam during the Ministry of Education’s Institution Innovation’s Council (IIC) Regional Meet at Amity University. Commending the New Education Policy (NEP), 2020, Sitharam expressed optimism that its effective implementation would establish India as the “knowledge capital” of the world. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the need to take higher education to the next level and execute various transformative reforms during the envisioned Amrit Kaal.
Sitharam underscored the importance of education in regional languages as part of the vision for Amrit Kaal, aiming to reach the maximum number of people. Initiatives include publishing books in regional languages and introducing reforms in examinations to move away from rote learning and written assessments.
The AICTE chairman highlighted the substantial leap toward integrating skill development into education, emphasizing its critical role in the country’s overall development. Emphasizing India’s broader vision, he stressed that the goal is not just to attain self-reliance (“Aatma Nirbhar”) but also to become a global contributor (“Vishwa Daata”). This was exemplified during the COVID-19 pandemic when India supplied vaccines to over 100 countries.
The Education Ministry’s regional meets, the flagship program of its Innovation Cell, aim to provide a networking platform for innovation among institutions. The event at Amity University in Noida attracted around 800 to 1,000 participants, including innovators, startups, policymakers, and representatives from state and central government agencies.
