US authorities are currently delving into the circumstances surrounding the death of an Indian-American student in Ohio, marking the fourth such incident within a month in the country. Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, enrolled at Cincinnati’s Lindner School of Business, tragically passed away, and the Consulate General of India in New York reported on Thursday that, at this stage, there is no suspicion of foul play.
Expressing profound sadness over the unfortunate demise, the Consulate shared the news of Shreyas Reddy Benigeri’s passing on social media platform X. The consulate disclosed that an ongoing police investigation is underway, assuring that, as of now, foul play is not suspected. However, specific details about the incident were not disclosed in the statement.
The Consulate General remains in constant communication with the family, offering unwavering support and assistance. The family in India has been informed about the tragedy, and there are expectations of the deceased student’s father arriving from India in the near future.
This tragic incident follows closely after the recent death of Neel Acharya, an Indian-origin student pursuing a double major at Purdue University, who was found dead near the university airport. Preceding this, a 25-year-old Indian student named Vivek Saini fell victim to a fatal attack by a homeless drug addict in Lithonia city, Georgia. Another unfortunate incident involved the demise of 18-year-old Akul B Dhawan at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign last month. Dhawan, who exhibited signs of hypothermia, went missing in the early hours of January 20, only to be discovered nearly 10 hours later on the back porch of a building near the university campus in west Urbana, Illinois.
