Dr (Prof.) S. Sadagopan founder-director of the Indian Institute of Information Technology-Bangalore recently retired from IIIT-B after along innings of 22 years during which he established IIIT-B as one of India’s most respected higher education institutions for developing much-needed human resources for the country’s Information and Communications Technology or IT industries which clocked an aggregate revenue of $ 195 billion (Rs. 14 lakh crore) in 2020.

An engineering graduate of Madras University, with a Ph D awarded by the high-ranked Purdue University, USA, in his long and dedicated career in Indian academia, Dr Sadagopan taught at IIT Kanpur, IIM Bangalore, IIT Madras and as founding director of in IIIT-Bangalore. Moreover, he served as visiting faculty at Rutgers University, USA and the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. His areas of research and expertise are Operations Research, Multi-criteria optimization Decision Theory, Simulation, Enterprise Computing, Programming Languages, Databases, Multimedia and e-Governance.

Widely respected in the Indian industry, Dr Sadagopan also serves on the boards of several public sector corporations including Bharat Electronics, Neyveli Lignite Corporation and Indian Renewable Energy Agency, as also on the boards of and IIIT Bhubaneshwar, IIIT-Delhi and IBAB and as a member of the Karnataka Knowledge Commission.
