March 12, 2024

Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren launched two schemes on Monday to enhance access to higher education for students. At the Tana Bhagat Stadium in Ranchi, Soren highlighted the significance of the Guruji Student Credit Card and the Manki Munda Scholarship in overcoming barriers hindering students’ pursuit of higher education.

Under the Guruji Student Credit Card scheme, students can obtain collateral-free education loans up to Rs 15 lakh with a 4% annual interest rate. Repayment starts a year after completing the course, with the government acting as the guarantor. The Manki Munda Scholarship encourages girls to pursue technical education, offering Rs 15,000 annually for diploma courses and Rs 30,000 for engineering courses.

About 1,200 students registered for the Guruji Student Credit Card, and 800 enrolled for the Manki Munda Scholarship. The chief minister personally handed credit cards and scholarships to two students from each scheme during the event, emphasizing the importance of higher education for the children of laborers and farmers.

Soren also highlighted the Mukhyamantri Shiksha Protsahan Yojna, providing a monthly stipend of Rs 2,500 to students to cover living expenses during coaching. He stressed that education is crucial for development at the family, societal, and state levels. Additionally, the chief minister inaugurated a 3D theater at the regional science center in Ranchi, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting education and innovation in the state.
