Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has issued a directive urging students to avoid staging demonstrations within a 100-meter radius of the university’s administrative block as the new semester approaches. This appeal, dated July 18, emphasizes the need for students to report any unauthorized activities to the university’s security branch.
The administration has reinforced its stance on maintaining a “zero tolerance” policy towards any form of violence or indiscipline on campus. The appeal underscores the importance of fostering a peaceful and orderly environment as the semester begins and various student activities and events are organized.
In addition to the request for peace and discipline, the university highlighted a recent high court order that restricts demonstrations, dharnas, and mass gatherings within the 100-meter perimeter of the administrative block. This legal directive aims to ensure that the campus remains a conducive space for academic pursuits and administrative functions.
The administration’s message also included a reminder for students to respect the rules and collaborate with the university’s security and administrative teams to uphold campus decorum. It emphasized that adherence to these guidelines is essential for preventing disruptions and maintaining a positive academic atmosphere.
JNU has been proactive in addressing student concerns and organizing support services to assist students in navigating the new semester. The administration has also promised to engage with student bodies to address their issues through appropriate channels, ensuring that the campus environment remains respectful and focused on academic excellence.
