A delegation from the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) met with the UGC’s Joint Secretary on Monday to address concerns about the disbursement of scholarships.
The students reported that their scholarship amounts had been pending for several months, despite being marked as generated in the Scholarship and Fellowship Management Portal (SMFP).
“The JNUSU organized a mass delegation to the UGC today to resolve the issues surrounding scholarship disbursement. We met with the UGC Joint Secretary and communicated that JRF scholars have not received their fellowships since May, despite it being listed as generated in the SMFP portal,” stated an official from the students’ union.
In addition, the students pointed out that Non-NET fellowships had not been received for months.
The delegation also requested an extension of the deadline for claiming pending arrears until August 2025, as it is currently set for October 8.
According to the statement, the UGC assured the students that arrears claimed between August 1 and August 8 would be disbursed within the next few days, along with the fellowships generated in the previous month.
For those who applied for the fellowship in September, the current month’s fellowship will also be disbursed. Additionally, the students claimed that the UGC agreed to extend the deadline for claiming pending arrears beyond October 8.
