Karnataka: BJP MLA demands action against teacher for anti-Hindu remark

February 13, 2024

On Monday, BJP MLA Y Bharat Shetty called for action against a school teacher in Mangalore for allegedly making an “anti-Hindu” remark within the classroom. Shetty, representing Mangalore City North, addressed the issue after parents filed a complaint with the police against the teacher, accusing them of making derogatory remarks against Hinduism and Gods with the alleged intent of influencing students towards Christianity.

Expressing concern about a trend of schools allegedly spreading anti-Hindu sentiments, Shetty emphasized that such incidents are not isolated. The complaint demanded decisive action against both the teacher and the school management. Shetty pointed out instances where schools, which previously adhered to Hindu traditions, are now accused of promoting negativity towards the construction of the Ram Mandir.

Encouraging Hindus to reconsider enrolling their children in schools run by “Christian management,” Shetty warned of BJP protests if stringent action is not taken by the school administration against the accused teacher.

In response, DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla criticized Shetty, accusing the MLA of only engaging with communal issues. Katipalla questioned whether Shetty had addressed the problems in government schools and colleges during his tenure instead of promoting divisive agendas.
