The High Court of Karnataka has rejected a civil contempt of court petition filed by the Adishakti Seva Trust in Mandya against the Education Department. The petition accused the Department of not upgrading the school’s status despite a single judge’s order.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale and Justice Krishna S Dixit cited the school’s lack of necessary facilities such as laboratories, libraries, playgrounds, and fire safety measures.
The court expressed concern about the school seeking an upgrade without adequate facilities and safety measures, emphasizing that education should not be treated as a commercial activity.
The contempt petition had been filed against H Shivaramu, the Deputy Director of Public Instructions in Mandya, following a single judge’s decision on August 21, 2023, which directed the Department to consider the Trust’s application in accordance with the law.
