Karnataka: Repeaters seek fair rankings after KCET results

August 2, 2022

Scores of students are fuming against the Karnataka Examinations Authority claiming a huge difference in their previous and current year’s rankings despite bettering their scores.

This comes after the Karnataka Common Entrance Test results were announced on Saturday. Scores of students have been gathering at the KEA office in Bengaluru asking for a fair awarding of ranks.

It may be recollected that in 2021, owing to the pandemic, second PU exams were canceled and students were given marks based on their first PU and class 10 scores. Several students had rejected the ranks given by KEA last year and decided to give it another chance. Candidates who had rejected the ranks re-appeared for exams this year. However, they have been dissatisfied with the results, a large number of them claim that their ranks have come down further.

Repeaters said that as against the usual practice of considering 50 % marks from boards and 50 % from CET results, only their CET scores have been taken into account.

“The droppers have asked for fair results in KCET 2022. Either don’t consider board marks for everyone or consider only KCET marks only for everyone,” said Pavitha P, a student.

Yet another candidate sought to know from the state’s higher education minister Dr C N ADhwath Narayan how unfair it was for ranks to have fallen.

“I am a repeater. My KCET Rank for 2022 is 19520 for marks 123/180. But last year as a fresher I got KCET rank of 7810 for marks 92/180. This is clearly injustice with repeaters. Please don’t play with our future,” said, Namokar Savaganve, another student on Twitter.

Similar were complaints of other candidates. “My ranks were around 10,000 last year. Since I was not happy, I decided to give it another year and try again for KCET. My new scores are now around 18,000. I would have done better if I had just accepted my fate in the first attempt,” said Sunil G, another student.
