Karnataka: Teen dies by suicide a day before board exams

March 26, 2024

A 16-year-old student who was to appear for Secondary School Leaving Certificate Exams in Karnataka died by suicide just a day before the commencement of exams.

The student was found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan in Yadehalli of Sagar Taluk. The incident took place on Sunday. However, the reason for his suicide is yet to be ascertained.

According to sources, last week, the student’s father and mother had a heated altercation over a personal reason. It is unclear if this pushed the student to take the extreme step.

The police said that this was not the first time that the student had attempted suicide. He tried to take his life at a railway station earlier this month and alert locals averted the incident.

A complaint has been lodged and the police are investigating whether examination pressure was also a cause for his suicide.
