Minister for primary and secondary education B C Nagesh said that a committee has been constituted to decide on the inclusion of Bhagavad Gita in school syllabus.
Nagesh, on Monday told the legislative council that in line with the National Education Policy 2020, the committee will, on lines of the proposal made in Gujarat, check on the inclusion of Gita into school syllabus.
Raising the issue in the Zero Hour, BJP MLA Pranesh also sought that the Gita be included starting from academic year 2022-23. He said that Karnataka must take cue from Gujarat which has introduced this in the syllabus and follow.
Responding to this, Nagesh said that the state government would constitute a committee to look into this issue. “We are looking at introducing moral education as there has been a rising demand for the same. Once the committee is formed, meetings would be held with chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and a conclusion would be reached,” he said.
Gujarat’s education minister Jitu Vaghani had said that Bhagavad Gita would be introduced as a part of the school syllabus for class VI to class XII students in Gujarat from the upcoming year 2022-23.
Meanwhile, union minister Prahlad Joshi said on Saturday that all state governments must consider teaching Bhavad Gita in schools.
