Karnataka’s NEP 2020 expert committee to assess implementation upto 2030

As Karnataka gears up for the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in primary and secondary education sectors as well, a 21-member committee headed by retired IAS officer Madan Gopal has been appointed to assess, analyze and advise the government on the effects of NEP up to 2030 in Karnataka.

The 21-member committee that includes former principals, educationists, researchers and top government officials are set to design a road-map for implementation and conduct review meets every month. The committee comprises of mission director, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, commissioner of the department of public instruction educationists Dr Suparna Diwakar, Sheshagiri Madhusooshan and retired director for public instruction Dr Basavaraj among others.

The committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of preparation and finalization of the draft implementation framework, working out the details of the draft implementation framework in consultation with all stakeholders, and providing guidance in formulating the State Curriculum Framework 2020 for classes 1-12. The members will also oversee the status of implementation of the NEP, allotting tasks to be performed, monitoring, identifying gaps and rebuilding necessary policies to bridge any gaps. The committee will also be responsible to ideate long-term plans and prospective plans for the implementation of NEP 2020.

R Vishal, commissioner, department of public instruction said, “For any new plan, the implementation happens in stages. The committee will look into the data that is currently available in the first stage. Later, the implementation plan is worked out. Only after several deliberations and expert meetings will it be possible to understand the time-frame in which we are looking to implement NEP for primary and secondary education.”
