Arvind Kejriwal, addressing the AAP’s ‘Shiksha Par Baat’ programme, emphasized the significance of the party’s achievements in the education sector, describing them as planting a “small sapling.” He warned that “trampling” these developments would eliminate the future of education for poor children. Reflecting on the state of Delhi’s schools before AAP came to power, he shared how infrastructure was inadequate, with no clean drinking water or functioning toilets. Kejriwal praised Chief Minister Atishi and Manish Sisodia’s efforts to revamp these schools, adding over 22,000 classrooms in the past decade.
He further argued that privatizing government schools would have made education unaffordable for most families, as they could not have paid fees as high as Rs 5,000 per month. Today, Kejriwal noted, Delhi’s government schools have transformed into world-class institutions, with many students qualifying for prestigious IIT and medical exams.
Atishi also highlighted the improvements under Kejriwal’s leadership, noting that the addition of 22,000 new classrooms since 2015 surpassed the total number of classrooms available from 1947 to 2015. She emphasized the efficient use of taxpayer money to build a better future for students, pointing out that many students from these schools are excelling academically.
Parents at the event shared their positive experiences, with Jai Singh Kushwaha describing his son’s achievement in chess, which he had never imagined possible before. The event underscored how the education reforms under Kejriwal’s leadership have made a significant difference in the lives of students and their families.
