Overview

KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (SIMSR) was founded in 1981 as a part of the Somaiya Vidyavihar Educational Complex promoted by Padmabhushan Late Shri K J Somaiya in 1959. It was set up with the objective of providing state-of-the-art education in management and allied areas. The institute maintains a healthy faculty student ratio of 1:15. Sited on a 50 acres campus, it offers an environment conducive to learning and a range of courses in management.

KJ Somaiya Institute of Management is an Autonomous Educational Institute approved by University Grant Commission, and is a constituent Institute of Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU). The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) has accredited PGDM and MMS programmes of the institute for five years and it has received permanent affiliation from the University of Mumbai. The institute is consistently rated A+ and ranked amongst the Top B-Schools in India by leading education surveys.

SIMSR boasts an excellent placement track record. All the placement activities are handled by the students to hone their skills in Planning and Organizing.

Campus

SIMSR is sited on a 50 acres campus hosting international standard facilities. The infrastructure includes air-conditioned adjacent buildings in two blocks, multimedia equipped classrooms, seminar halls, spaciously furnished auditoriums, project rooms, student canteen, MDP centre, activity rooms for placement & alumni, faculty cabins, syndicate rooms, barrier-free environment for physically challenged and wi-fi campus with round the clock internet facility.

The institute also houses a 6500 sq ft fully computerized library with a stock of over 32,000 books, 50 Indian and international journals, periodicals, business publications and CD-ROMs, besides four well-equipped computer centres with the latest hardware and software.

The campus offers facilities for sports such as cricket, football, basket ball, volleyball, squash, table tennis, badminton and chess. Gymnasium, yoga and meditation centre are also provided.

Admission

Students pursuing or having completed a minimum of three-year graduation programme in any discipline with minimum 50 percent marks from any recognized university, are eligible for PGDM courses. Shortlisted candidates need to appear for CAT examination.

For full time Masters degree programme, admissions are done as per the guidelines of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Government of Maharashtra.

Eligibility to apply for various programmes at K J Somaiya Institute of Management:

MBA / MBA-HCM / MBA-SM:
• Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree with minimum 50% aggregate from a recognized university.
• The applicant must have given one of the following entrance exams (list mentioned below) and clear the cut-off for the MBA programme.
1. CAT 2021
2. XAT 2022
3. CMAT 2022
4. NMAT (Only 1st attempt score will be considered valid)
5. GMAT (Scores valid from Jan 2019 to 31st Jan 2022)

MBA Executive:
• Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree with minimum 50% aggregate from a recognized university.
• The applicant must have given one of the following entrance exams (list mentioned below).
1. CAT 2021
2. XAT 2022
3. CMAT 2022
4. NMAT (Only 1st attempt score will be considered valid)
5. GMAT (Scores valid from Jan 2019 to 31st Jan 2022)
• Minimum 5 years Work Experience after Graduation is mandatory.

MBA Part Time:
• Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree from a recognized university.
• Minimum 2 years work experience after graduation.

MCA:
• Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree with minimum 50% aggregate from a recognized university.
• Studied Mathematics as one of the subjects at (10+2) level or at Graduate level examination.
• The applicant must have given one of the following entrance exams MAH-MCA-CET (or) PERA-CET (or) GATE.

Admission Process for All MBA programmes at K J Somaiya Institute of Management:

For 2 Year MBA Full-Time programme:

  • The candidate has to fill the online Somaiya Application form on the website. (https://admissions.somaiya.edu/)
  • The aspirants need to submit a valid exam score. CAT 2021 / XAT 2022/ CMAT 2022/ NMAT / GMAT (Scores valid from 1st January 2019 to 31st January 2022) scores are accepted.

The candidate can apply for more than one Programme.

  • The candidates will be shortlisted and called for further process of case analysis and Personal Interview (CA/PI). The shortlisting for the CA/PI process happens based on the test scores submitted, while only profile-based shortlisting will be applicable for MBA HCM and MBA SM. The shortlisted candidates need to pick a slot for their CA/PI process.
  • The CA/PI process will be conducted online on zoom platform and an in-depth interview to understand the candidate will be conducted.
  • The results on the performance in the CA/PI along with various other parameters will be issued by the institute. The seat allotment is based on results, preferences, and availability of seats.

For 15 months MBA Executive programme:

  • The candidate has to fill the online Somaiya Application form on the website. (https://admissions.somaiya.edu/)
  • The aspirants need to submit a valid exam score. CAT 2021 / XAT 2022/ CMAT 2022/ NMAT / GMAT (Scores valid from 1st January 2019 to 31st January 2022) scores are accepted.
  • The candidates will be shortlisted and called for further process of Personal Interview (PI).
  • The PI process will be conducted online on Zoom platform or physically and an in-depth interview to understand the candidate.
  • The results on the performance in the PI along with various other parameters will be issued by the institute.

Selection Process

Step 1: Applicants to register on the admissions portal (admissions.somaiya.edu) and submit the Financial Aid related documents along with the Admission form.

Step 2: All documents submitted will be reviewed and screened on the basis of eligibility criteria

Step 3: Eligible applicants will go through an Interview round

Step 4: Scrutiny/Verification of documents will be done as per the requirements
Financial Aid will be awarded to selected applicants. 

Achievement

Somaiya Institute of Management was ranked No. 9 among all business schools in India by Business World in 2011 and ranked No.9 among top B-Schools in Indian by CNBC-TV 18, 2011. It was also awarded the ‘Best Management Institute of the Year 2008’ by Bombay Management Association.

Accommodation

SIMSR offers on-campus hostel accommodation for boys and girls. The facilities include 600 beds (each hostel), 24 hours internet connectivity, laundry, gym and mess.
