La Martiniere for Boys School, the Christian missionary school in Kolkata run by Church of North India (CNI) will provide space to a city-based private hospital for setting up their Covid-19 vaccination centre, the school said.

La Martiniere for Boys School, Calcutta has decided to give three floors of the Martin Block of the institution to Belle View Clinic authorities for running their vaccination centre, Supriyo Dhar, secretary of the school said.

Vaccination at Belle View Clinic is now done in two floors of the hospital.

Once its vaccination centre gets shifted to the La Martiniere for Boys School campus, the hospital will be able to use the two floors for adding around 90 beds for treatment of Covid-19 patients,  according to sources.

The hospital, located within one kilometer from the school, had recently approached the institution for providing a portion of its campus for running its vaccination centre.

According to Supriyo Dhar, the proposal was immediately forwarded to Reverend Paritosh Canning, Bishop of the Calcutta Diocese of CNI who is also the chairman of the board of governors of the school.

“The Bishop immediately approved the proposal. The hospital is likely to start the operation of the vaccination centre by next week. Six classrooms and one big hall in the Martin Block have been allotted to the hospital,” Supriyo Dhar told EducationWorld.

With the number of Covid-19 cases increasing every day in Kolkata, there is an acute shortage of Covid beds in most city hospitals.
