Maharashtra: Video of minister admonishing job-seeking teacher goes viral

November 29, 2023

A viral video circulating on social media captures Maharashtra School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar rebuking a woman who questioned the ‘delay’ in the recruitment of teachers. The incident occurred during the minister’s meeting with candidates for school teacher positions in Beed city on Monday. Kesarkar, affiliated with the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, justified his reaction by stating that the woman was not maintaining discipline during the interaction.

In the video, the aspiring government school teacher is heard expressing frustration about the recruitment process’s delay, mentioning the absence of advertisements. The minister responded, indicating that instructions had been given to each district to release advertisements. However, the woman interrupted, asking when the advertisement would be issued.

Kesarkar sternly informed her that if she continued to behave indisciplined, she would not secure a government job. He emphasized the importance of discipline, stating, “I am as strict as I am affectionate. For me, my students are important. You are worried about the job, and for that, I made available 30,000 jobs, but if you teach the same indiscipline to students, then I won’t accept it.”

As the woman persisted in expressing her concerns, the minister warned that he would identify her and instruct officials to disqualify her. NCP MP Supriya Sule criticized Kesarkar for the incident and urged Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to rein in his ministers. Sule called for Kesarkar to apologize to the woman in a social media post.
