Masked men attack Karnataka private schools association president

In a spine-chilling incident, the president/ general secretary of the Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka (KAMS), D Shashi Kumar was attacked near his residence in Vidyaranyapura in Bengaluru late on Thursday night by three armed men. 
 
The CCTV footage from a nearby building shows three masked men attempting to physically injure him while Kumar had a narrow escape. Shashi Kumar has claimed that this was an attempt to murder him. 
 
It was around 9 pm on a rather busy street with passersby, a bike and a mini goods auto, all in close vicinity. Unmindful of several witnesses, the men attacked Shashi Kumar who just arrived in a car and alighted. But the quick thinking Shashi Kumar immediately retreated into the car and had a narrow escape. 
 
Seconds later, as the attackers scooted the driver of the car and Shashi Kumar attempted to chase them but in vain. 
 
Shashi Kumar is the spokesperson of KAMS, a representative body for over 3,000 private unaided schools in Karnataka and has been vocal about several issues affecting the functioning of private schools. He was also among the people who led a protest of private teachers in the state to protest the state  government’s 30% fee cut mandate. 
 
According to Shashi Kumar he has received several murder threats in the past and also carries a licensed weapon for self protection. A complaint has been lodged at Jalahalli police station and investigation is underway.
