More than ‘Amrit Kaal’ we need ‘Shiksha Kaal’ for India: Kharge

January 19, 2024

On Friday, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Modi government’s handling of education in India, expressing concern over the state of affairs and pledging justice for students in 2024.

In a post on X, he stated, “More than ‘Amrit Kaal,’ we need ‘Shiksha Kaal’ for India.” Kharge emphasized that in 2024, India would ensure justice (NYAY) for its students, citing the Annual State of Education Report (ASER) as evidence of the Modi government’s failure in the education sector.

Referring to the ASER, he highlighted alarming statistics, stating, “56.7 percent of 14 to 18-year-old students in rural India struggle with class 3 math, and 26.5 percent of this age group still cannot read a class 2 level text fluently in their regional language.”

Kharge also drew attention to the fact that 25 percent of youth in the 17-18 age group have discontinued education, primarily due to a “lack of interest.” Alongside his post, he shared a 35-second video alleging that the “BJP is destroying the future of our young.”

This critique from Kharge underscores the pressing issues within the education system, as revealed by the ASER, and positions the Congress party’s commitment to addressing these concerns and seeking justice for students in the upcoming year.
