Madhya Pradesh education minister Inder Singh Parmar allegedly said Mar Jao (Go and Die) to a parents’ union in Bhopal who had gone to him to consult regarding overcharging of fees by schools. The parents had gone to him to discuss what should be done if the education department refused to hear their appeal.
The parents’ body and the Opposition Congress have demanded that the minister be sacked, if he does not quit himself. Around 100 parents under the banner Madhya Pradesh Palak Mahasangh had gone to the minister’s official residence in Bhopal to discuss the matter. The parents said that the schools were not following the High Court’s order and charging exorbitant fees.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered that during the Covid pandemic, the schools can only charge tuition fee.
The parents requested the minister to intervene and reduce the fees as they were finding it quite difficult to pay. Amidst the global pandemic, loss of jobs and salary deduction on a regular basis have made lives worse and hence parents have approached the minister for a solution.
Palak Mahsangh president Kamal Vishwakarma said the minister should apologise to the parents and resign if he is not willing to listen to their pleas.
“The minister is a shameless person,” said Congress spokesperson Narendra Saluja.
Congress state president Jitu Patwari shared the video on social media and wrote, “This is Madhya Pradesh’s education minister and Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s uncontrolled horse. He is telling the parents’ union ‘do whatever you can, go and die’. This response to the demand of fee waiver in schools during the pandemic shows how the government is blinded by the power.”
