A music teacher at a suburban Mumbai school has been arrested by the police following allegations of molesting a 13-year-old student. According to an official statement on Wednesday, the 26-year-old teacher is also accused of attempting to engage in social media conversations with the Class 7 student, but she resisted his advances.
The girl has reported both molestation and stalking by the teacher. The incident came to light after she disclosed it to her parents, who subsequently filed a complaint with the Charkop police.
In response to the complaint, the accused, identified as Siddharth Singh, was arrested late Tuesday night. He has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage modesty) and 354-D (stalking), as well as provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. An ongoing investigation is being conducted into the case.
