A 17-year-old medical aspirant from Bihar, Hrishit Kumar Agrawal, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his rented room in Kota, police said on Thursday. This marks the twelfth suspected suicide by a coaching student in Kota since January, with the total student suicides in 2023 standing at 26.
Agrawal, a Class 12 student preparing for the NEET at a coaching institute in Kota, lived in a rented room in Chota Chaurahin Dadabari area. Around 1 pm on Thursday, other students alerted the police after Agrawal didn’t respond to knocks on his door. Upon breaking the door, police found him hanging from a ceiling fan. No suicide note was found, and the body was decomposed, indicating he might have died on Wednesday.
Agrawal had been preparing for the medical entrance exam in Kota for the last two years. His parents have been informed, and the body has been sent to MBS hospital for a post-mortem, which will be conducted after his parents’ arrival.
Earlier incidents include the suicide of 17-year-old Ayush Jaiswal, also from Bihar, on June 16, and the death of 18-year-old NEET aspirant Bagisha Tiwari, who allegedly jumped from a building’s ninth floor on June 5 after the NEET-UG results were declared.
